The Joy of Omaha Freeroll

It’s very rare to get someone in “drawing dead” in Omaha, a phenomenon which occurs from time to time in Holdem, but the next best thing is getting your money in on a freeroll. By this I mean a situation where you have zero chance of losing the pot, the worse case scenario is a split, and you have redraws to scoop the whole pot.

I put in a small 90 minute online session last night, playing the 0.5/1 Omaha cash tables and came away with a nice $330 profit for the night. I have to admit I got the rub of the green, not in the sense I was outdrawing people, but more the fact that my big flopped hands were holding up all the time. People were also paying me off with all sorts of debatable holdings.

And then there were the freerolls, of which I chopped one pot and won the other, which is par for the course I guess.

Freeroll1
I hold 99TJ on a board of 789, giving me the nut straight and a draw to a full house. I chop against the bare JT with all the money going in on the flop.

Freeroll2
I hold AhKhQdTd on a board of KsQhJh giving me the nut straight plus a draw to the flush and the royal flush. I win against the bare AT, when a low heart pops out on the turn.

All in all a very good session, and I my new tighter starting hand requirements paid dividends, when I got my money in very good in a number of spots. Tomorrow is a live game at the Loose Cannon and after that I am keen to make the International for the £100 deepstack on Saturday night.

Speaking of Omaha freerolls, my strongest ever one was against my familiar adversary The Baron last year in a live game:
I hold AdKdKcJc
Flop arrives KsQdTd

Joy of joys I have hit:
Nut straight
Nut House redraw
Nut Flush redraw
Royal flush redraw

I don’t think an Omaha hand can get any better than this aside from flopping quads with the other guy flopping a house, and I soon get my money all-in in against The Baron and another player (Tony, from memory). The Baron being The Baron manages to dodge all the bullets, and his bare AJ nut straight chops with me. Unbelievable ;)
